Built in 1810, the Nathan Gates House is home to the Machiasport Historical Society.  The museum contains an extensive collection of old photographs, period furniture , housewares and other memorabilia.  There is also a genealogical library.

The Marine Room highlights the area's seafaring and shipbuilding past.

A model schoolroom and post office and a large collection of carpentry tools occupy the adjacent Cooper House, a utilitarian building constructed in 1850.

Open July 5th through September 2nd

                                               Tuesday-Friday

                                       12:30-4:30 or by appointment

The Machiasport Historical Society is excited to announce the Gates House will be featured in an upcoming movie about a woman lighthouse keeper in Maine.  Filming starts immediately following our Lobster Lunch thereby requiring us to close the museum on August 24th, one week earlier than previously planned and announced.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We held our annual Christmas party on Sunday, December 8th from 3-5 pm.

The food was plentiful and tasty and we had strong attendance to enjoy it.   Christmas carols were played and sung in the parlor throughout the afternoon.

Please plan to join us next year.

 Admittance is free.
